Wedding favours don’t have to be hugely expensive to look impressive. With home baking making a come back why not consider putting your stamp on your favours and baking something yourself. Fear not, you don’t have to be Delia Smith or Jamie Oliver to attempt the recipes below as they are simple enough but create a lot of impact as table decorations too. We have helpfully given each recipe a rating from 1-5 (easy to more difficult), but even the 5’s are pretty simple if you’re adept in the kitchen. Give it a go and share your results with us.
Cake Pops- Difficulty Rating 3
These are pretty self-explanatory but incase you haven’t seen them they are basically a ball of yummy cake mixture coated in chocolate and sprinkles, on a stick, similar to a lollypop. You could then wrap a small piece of cellophane around each one and bind with ribbon to keep them fresh and protected. These look really effective all stood in vases or stuck into coloured sand in a glass. Alternatively, specific cake pop stands are available to buy online, but we like a few displayed on each table better than all in one place.
Bespoke Biscotti- Difficulty Rating 2
Another really easy bake but look so pretty when a couple of pieces are bound together by patterned string or ribbon, with name tags too if necessary. You can alter the recipe to include thousands of flavour combinations to suit every taste. They look so delicate and different and taste really great when accompanied by an after dinner tea or coffee. As an added touch you could even include the recipe on the back of the name card so that your wedding take on biscotti biscuits can be recreated after the occasion.
Meringues- Difficulty Rating 1
By far the easiest treat to conjure up, yet as beautiful as the rest are everyone’s favourite meringues. With added flavours such as pistachio or almonds as well as the ability to swirl food colouring into these cloudy nest of delight, these take minutes to whip up and their pretty peaks look gorgeous in boxes, jars or vintage paper bags.
Cookies & Biscuits- Difficulty Rating 2
Literally anything can be done with cookies and biscuits from crazy colours to unusual flavour combinations, blingy decoration and exciting shapes. You could use cutters to make your biscuits into the shapes of the guest’s initials, or even to spell another word that is special to you. If you feel brave with your icing, or have a generous friend who is, you could ice a self-portrait of you and your partner on each biscuit so when they come to enjoy it days afterwards they remember your great day with a fun picture. Favours are traditionally to say thank you to your guests so another sweet idea might be to create speech bubble cookies with the word thank you iced onto them in different languages. Tasty yet educational and pretty, personalise these to your hearts content.
